Christmas in Branson

Be in Awe of Christmas

3 minute read

Cupid might have an arrow to shoot and get a few people in the Valentines mood, but the spirit of Christmas drops a bomb on the little town of Branson every November and December to really get you going.  If you aren’t burning with the Christmas spirit after a few days here, you’re made of soggy wood.

Once upon a time, the town’s tourism was finished at the end of October after the fall festivals; but nowadays, the holiday season of November and December are some of the busiest times of the year and the whole town is involved. There are even some shows that start Christmas before Halloween! (Grab your plastic pumpkin full of candy and munch with your vampire teeth while humming along to Old Holy Night.)  November 1 officially starts the Christmas season and goes to New Year’s Eve. There is a slow down the week before Christmas, but when the kids are out on break it ramps up for out final flurry of the year.

Nationally, Branson has often been listed as one of the best places to be during the holidays and one of the biggest attractions – Silver Dollar City - has been named by USA Today THE BEST THEME PARK HOLIDAY EVENT.

An Old Time Christmas at Silver Dollar City is loaded with the way Christmas was and should be. The park is indeed a wonderland with original musicals, live nativity, a light parade, and a five story special effect Christmas tree and more lights than thought possible. The lights…. Oh, the lights that will surely make your neck sore from looking up and all around yet keep you mesmerized and inspired. It looks as if a few hundred kids with mouths filled with glitter sneezed from the roof tops. Over 6.5 million lights bejewel the park and keep the generators on Table Rock Dam working overtime to give the electric company their own Christmas gift.

Yes, it will be chilly but the park has multiple indoor shows and attractions and some great Christmas dining to warm you. It is truly a step back in time and will fill you with the joy of the season and enough candy products to give you a smile during your sugar coma.

If strolling through a theme park isn’t your thing, nearly every show in the area is Christmas. The Hughes Brothers Christmas Show is the most award winning in town and guests pack the house as the family packs the stage with over 40 performers. They even have a real baby for the baby Jesus. (Rumor has it that the Hughes family, which is the largest performing family in the world, times another birth each year to fill this acting roll.) Book it soon! The seats go fast!

Another Christmas production that is filling the seats is the Miracle of Christmas at the Sight & Sound Theatre. You already know the real Christmas story, but it has never been told in such a massive production with such flare and music. This $90 million theatre has a reputation for amazing shows and this one more than delivers. Don’t wait to book this one either; many shows are already sold out!

Some other notable attractions or productions that will be open the last weeks of December are Hamner’s Unbelievable, the Haygoods who sell out nearly every show, plus many more. When making the rounds on one of your glorious shopping trips that will surely melt your VISA (thank you for helping our economy, by the way) there are also several drive-through Christmas displays near town including a VIP chauffeured tour, a drive-yourself-tour through the Joy of Lights.  If you’re burned out on Christmas, there is always the Acrobats of Shanghai or a magic show!

Yes, the Spirit of Christmas has bombed Branson and Branson is the bomb for you and your family. There is no place quite like this at Christmas and it will fix all those grumpy relatives so that you can finally relax and just enjoy the season.
